| Mark
Nickels has been an artist working in the Seattle area since 1980.
Trained first in sculpture under Louis Bernstein and then further
training at Cornish Art School led him to complete his training in
painting under Libby Berry, the worlds foremost authority on renaissance
painting technique, composition and color theory. After several years
of “making a living” and painting on the side, Mark has
started to spend a lot more of his time in the pursuit of artistic
expression. Mark's primary goal with painting is to communicate spiritual
ideas in an aesthetic way. Producing a view in the physical universe
with the “invisible” spiritual and mental conditions going
along with the physical form. The idea being to produce an image that
communicates on all three levels. The thing you will notice as unique
in all Mark's work is the brilliant use of color that produces a rich
glowing canvas. The color technique Mark uses also produces paintings
that look very good in a variety of lighting situations. They do
not need to be specially lit to be beautiful. Also they can convey
different moods or tones in different lighting. This technique is
used to produce canvases with many layers of communication. The
viewer can find more and more figures and images in the painting
under different conditions. Including the viewers mood. The photos
on this site are fairly good but leave something to be desired compared
to the real thing. Keep that in mind and look really close!!
